And remember, from now until midnight August 18th, you can download "Signs Of The Second Coming" for only 99 cents. After that date, it will be $3.99. So act quick and make sure to tell your friends about it! If you don't have a Kindle, you can still read the book on any device by downloading a free Kindle reading app here. And if you haven't adopted ebooks yet, don't worry! A paperback version will be released in two to three weeks. Your efforts are crucial to helping this book to succeed. So please consider leaving a review at Amazon. Even if it's only a sentence or two, your review could make a difference. You could play a primary role in presenting the Gospel to someone who's never heard it. 2) Return To The Tower Of BabelI've stated many times in the past that the Tower of Babel is more than just a cute children's Sunday school story. It's a prophecy of things to come. Genesis tells us that long ago people were united and spoke the same language. They were also arrogant, and they set out to construct the Tower of Babel as a monument to their own greatness. But God stopped this ambitious project before it was completed, saying "If they can do this, nothing will be impossible for them! I'll put an end to this by confusing the people with different languages. Then they won't be able to understand each other." Genesis 11:6-7 (NLT). So God created different languages. And ever since, the lack of a common language has provided a barrier to the creation of a common world political and social culture. Early in humanity's history, God put an end to global government. But the Bible says that one day it will re-emerge (Revelation 13:7). For that to happen, we need to see a reversal of the language barrier God created at the Tower of Babel. If the language barrier is eliminated, humanity will be back to where it was in the Tower of Babel days. So is that what we see? In the past, I've speculated that one day we'll have devices that instantly translate foreign languages. Perhaps such a device would be similar to a hearing aid that instantaneously translates Japanese into English. With such a device, you could have a seamless conversation with someone who speaks a different language. You hear their words in your language, and they hear your words in their language. With such a device, there would effectively be one language. So is such a device anywhere in our near future? Yes. In fact, we recently took a major step toward making that day a reality. In May, Microsoft announced that an upcoming version of Skype will be able to translate voice calls in near real-time. In other words, two people will be able to Skype each other, speak in different languages, and hear the whole conversation in their own language. It won't be long before this new development is a standard feature embedded in every electronic device you buy. When that happens, different languages will no longer separate the people of this world. No doubt, many people will see this as a positive development. But God doesn't see it that way at all. When this happens, a major obstacle to world government will be removed. And given all the signs, we should expect that global government to appear in our lifetime - a government God warned against in Genesis. It's just one more reason to expect the soon return of Jesus. 3) The War in GazaIsrael's recent military campaign in Gaza has led to a heightened interest in bible prophecy. But does the Bible have anything to say about this conflict? Maybe. Maybe not. The general animosity of Israel's neighbors in regard to the Jews returning to the land is well documented by the Old Testament prophets. However, that doesn't mean this particular military campaign is noted in the Bible. Like previous regional conflicts, we may see the recent ground assualt in Gaza end with a temporary cease-fire with no new or notable fulfillments of bible prophecy. However, the Bible says this conflict will one day result in an overwhelming victory for Israel (Psalm 83). Gaza is mentioned in the alliance of Psalm 83 nations that seek the destruction of Israel. One day (maybe soon), this alliance of nations will invade Israel. The result? Absolute defeat for Israel's enemies. 4) Ebola OutbreakWhen the disciples asked Jesus to reveal the signs of His coming, one of the signs He cited was the appearance of "plagues" or "pestilence" in many lands (Luke 21:11). This is nothing new. We've always had pestilence. In the 14th Century, the Bubonic plague killed one-third of Europe. Following World War I, the 1918 Spanish flu killed between 50 and 100 million people worldwide (approximately 5% of the world population). And there have been other deadly diseases that have killed millions of people. So deadly pandemics are certainly nothing new. However, Jesus said this particular sign (along with others, such as wars, famines, and earthquakes) will appear in an unusual way. He said these signs will mark the beginning of "birth pains" (Matthew 24:8). In other words, we should expect these signs to appear with greater frequency and intensity as we approach the time of the Second Coming. While it's difficult to determine whether or not we've seen an increase in the frequency of deadly disease, we are seeing an increase in the intensity or deadliness of infectious disease. Healthcare professionals have warned us for years that bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics, giving rise to super bugs such MRSA. Now, a West African Ebola outbreak threatens to ravage millions with the potential to become a global pandemic. Unlike the Bubonic plague or the Spanish flu, mortality rates are much higher with Ebola. Depending on the circumstances involved, between 60% and 90% of those infected with Ebola will die from the disease - making Ebola one of the most lethal viruses ever. While we don't know yet whether Ebola will strike the earth on a scale similar to the 14th Century plague or the 1918 Spanish flu, the presence of such a deadly virus is yet another sign of His return. It should make everyone in good health take pause to reflect and offer God thanks for this day He has given us. Please pray for those people afflicted with this deadly disease, and pray for the coming Kingdom of Christ - where no one will have to endure the horrors of such pestilence. 5) "Coming To Jesus" in Paperback! My first book "Coming To Jesus: One Man's Search for Truth and Life Purpose" is now available in paperback as well as ebook format.
